Meta’s social app Threads, often called the rival to X (formerly Twitter), just introduced two new features that put users in charge of their conversations. These updates come shortly after the launch of Communities and disappearing “Ghost Posts.”
New Reply Approvals Feature
The biggest update is the new Reply Approvals option. This feature lets you review and approve replies before they appear under your post. In simple terms, you can now decide which comments are visible — giving you total control over the tone of your discussions.
Before this update, Threads already allowed users to limit replies to “people you follow,” “your followers,” or “people you mention.” But with Reply Approvals, you can keep your replies open to everyone — without worrying about spam, trolling, or off-topic comments.
Meta says this feature helps users “set the tone of the conversation” and ensures that the original poster stays in control. It’s a smart way to encourage open discussions while still protecting users from negativity.

Improved Activity Feed Filters
Alongside reply approvals, Threads also rolled out new Activity Feed Filters. These filters make it easier to find the replies and interactions that matter most to you.
You can now sort your activity by:
-
People you follow
-
Mentions
-
Verified users
-
Quotes
-
Reposts, and more
This means you can quickly check important replies or see who’s engaging with your content without scrolling endlessly.

Threads’ Rapid Growth
Meta shared during its latest quarterly earnings call that Threads now has 150 million daily active users, up from just over 100 million in December 2024. In August, the platform also surpassed 400 million monthly active users — a huge milestone for an app that launched only a short while ago.
As the user base grows, Meta is also working on monetizing Threads. Ads have already rolled out globally, and video ads are expected to launch soon.
More Customization on the Way
Meta isn’t stopping here. Instagram head Adam Mosseri recently revealed that Threads is testing new algorithm controls. These will let users add or remove topics based on their interests — helping them tune what they see in their feeds.
This means you’ll soon be able to personalize Threads even more, seeing more of what you like and less of what you don’t.
Threads continues to grow quickly and is becoming one of Meta’s most important platforms. With features like Reply Approvals and Activity Feed Filters, the app is striking a balance between open conversation and personal control.
As Threads evolves, users can expect even more features designed to create safer, more meaningful discussions — something social media has needed for a long time.
